Cappadocia to Ankara

Saturday 30th April 2011

This morning stopped at a traditional Turkish pottery workshop, a family company for hundreds of years. A clay "artist" demonstrated the use of the traditional kick wheel and made a circular jug, sensational! we saw the painters at work too, most intricate designs, really good stuff. Bought a shisha, or "nargile" in Turkish, it is soooooo cool. Postage to aust. cost me half what the shisha itself cost! But It's worth it :) no more frivolous spending... Seriously!!
Our tour guide Rashid told us about his dream where he was planning an affair, got busted by his wife, and leapt up to run away, but in reality threw himself out of the bed and bashed his head on the bedside table, got onto the bus the next morning with a big egg on his head :). He is really funny
Fell out of my seat today. The bus stopped suddenly, I hadn't even had a chance to fasten my seatbelt, and I got thrown out of my seat and ended up face first in the aisle. So embarrassing, and got a carpet burn on my knee too, first aid kit came in handy, thanks Liza!
Once we got to Ankara we stopped in to see the mausoleum of Ataturk, father of modern turkey, it was very ornate. Then there was also a museum with a bunch of Turkish historical exhibits, and also some stuff on the Anzac war, from the Turkish viewpoint. Had my photo taken next to the guard, so touristy but I couldn't resist.
